Hot art in the city! NEWS FROM CHULA LEAGUE | Apr 2017 only one week away!   We’ve been sharing interviews with Big Artists on the blog and Big Artist experiences on Twitter in excitement over our Little Artist BIG ARTIST program. The impact our Big Artists mentorship has on our Little Artists is immeasurable, but you can see some of the fruits of their labor at our 9th Annual Little Artist Big Artist art exhibit. Artwork in varying mediums created by 40 Little Artists from six East Austin elementary schools, as well as work from our 35 Big Artists will be on display. This show will give you a preview of some of the work that will be in the auction at Cherrywood Art Fair in December, and a chance to talk with some of the artists about their work. Come celebrate our Little and Big Artists’ hard work at our family-friendly opening reception Thursday, April 27, from 6 to 8 pm at Dougherty Arts Center. You can also enjoy food, drinks, and musical performances by students from the elementary schools participating in the program: Maplewood Ukulele Choir, Allison Dragon Choir, and the Barbara Jordan Choir. English-Spanish translators will be available. The event is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there for a big celebration of another great year of our Little Artist BIG ARTIST program!   Can’t make the reception? Don’t worry, you can still view the art at Dougherty Arts Center until May 21st. Chula League Fueling and sustaining the arts in East Austin since 2005. Our Austin-based nonprofit supports and preserves the local arts through art education, professional development and artful outdoor spaces in East Austin communities. LITTLE artist big artist Today’s artists mentoring tomorrow’s. Our LaBA program pairs East Austin elementary school students with professional artists who show kids how to turn ideas into art and art into a business that ends with an art exhibit, and pieces are auctioned at the fair. Cherrywood art fair Our 16th annual Fair will take place December 9-10, 2017. Featuring over 85 Texas artists exhibiting unique and varied art and handmade goods. Food trucks, music, and family entertainment makes it the perfect holiday season outing.
